Deep Spaces (2024) was conceived for Abu Dhabi urban environment and consists of a series of interventions inserting photographs on existing advertising panels at the city center, rented for the duration of the Biennial. Since there’s no apparent message, products or brands depicted on them, we can ask ourselves about the nature of these images or the reason for their presence.

Lucia Koch’s interventions in Abu Dhabi expand on the investigations initiated in her series Fundos, in which the artist photographs the interiors of cardboard boxes and various types of product packaging. When enlarged and installed, these photographs become virtual extensions of exhibition spaces. In Abu Dhabi, the artist continues the interventions from ‘Propaganda’ (2021), part of the Inhotim commissioning program, where, in addition to presenting works from the series on large-scale structures within the institution, she also installed photographs on existing billboards in the city of Brumadinho, subverting the typical function of these elements, which usually display advertisements in urban spaces.
