Today, May 14, 2025, artist JR joins actor and director Robert De Niro for a special masterclass on the stage of the Debussy Theatre, as part of the official program of the Cannes Film Festival. The event honors De Niro, recipient of the Honorary Palme d’Or at the 78th edition of the festival.
The masterclass marks another moment of collaboration between the two artists, who previously worked together on the film The Past Goes Fast (2022). In the project, Robert De Niro opens the doors of his father’s studio—preserved for nearly thirty years—to JR. The film reflects on De Niro’s complex relationship with his father, Robert De Niro Sr. (1922–1993), an abstract expressionist painter, exploring themes of memory, identity, and family legacy.
The conversation at Cannes offers a rare opportunity to witness a dialogue between cinema and the visual arts—across generations, languages, and creative fields.
