Paço Imperial will open the major exhibition Alto Barroco on June 14, offering an overview of artist André Griffo’s fourteen-year career. Curated by Juliana Gontijo, the exhibition will feature over 50 works, including paintings and installations–many of them previously unseen–which will occupy the central courtyard, three rooms on the first floor, and two rooms on the second floor of the Paço Imperial. This marks the artist’s first solo institutional exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, following several group shows and solo presentations at Centro Cultural São Paulo and Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte.
“The idea is to present an overview of the artist’s practice, but not in a chronological order—especially because many of his series span several years and end up establishing a kind of dialogue or relationship with one another,” says curator Juliana Gontijo, who has been following the artist’s work for over a decade.
