On Saturday, August 27, the Laberintos exhibition will be inaugurated , curated by Cecilia Jaime and Mayra Zolezzi . Throughout the four rooms of Fundación Proa , the aim is to reflect on this construction which, according to Jorge Luis Borges : “It is curious that man builds a space to lose himself”.
Starting from the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, and traveling through various cultures over time, the presence of the labyrinth and its various meanings appear in the construction of works by contemporary artists in dialogue with other ancient images.
The engravings of the city of Jericho, the plans of León Ferrari, or the constructions of Piranesi, are some of the topics to delve into the concept of the labyrinth in civilization and within ourselves.
The current circumstances also make us glimpse the labyrinth as a time to travel until discovering a way out, which is always found.
Using technology, spaces are transformed thanks to the creativity of artists: Dan Graham, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Regina Silveira, Jorge Miño, Horacio Zabala, among many others.
