The work 'O Peixe' (2016) by Jonathas de Andrade is on view at the Lugar Comum project, a project by Vik Muniz, aimed at long-term authorial interventions at the São Joaquim Fair in Salvador (BA).
"O Peixe" shows a fishing village on the northeast coast of Brazil, whose ritual is to hug the fish while fishing. Transcending the boundary between fiction and reality, the film presents a borderline embrace in which man regains his status as a species and, eye to eye with his prey, calms it down through an ambiguous sequence of gestures. Reflecting on the naturalness of the domination that hides the backbone of this hunting relationship, made up of the constant exercise of force, power and devouring.
