Currently on view at Sharjah Art Foundation in the United Arab Emirates, The Search for an Open Enigma is the first solo exhibition of Antonio Dias’ art in the country. It presents works by the artist (1944–2018), who relentlessly transgressed material and conceptual boundaries, addressing complex sociopolitical issues across diverse media. The exhibition title derives from artist-critic Hélio Oiticica’s 1969 analysis of the open-ended nature of Dias’ iconography.
Curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, with curatorial assistance from Reem Sawan, the exhibition pays homage to the versatile and subversive nature of Dias’ oeuvre through a selection of works that trace his artistic trajectory from the 1960s to the late 1990s. The Search for an Open Enigma will remain on view through December 8.
