MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand presents, from March 28 to August 3, 2025, the exhibition Cinco ensaios sobre o MASP – Geometrias, on the fourth and tenth floors of the Pietro Maria Bardi Building. Featuring more than 50 works from the museum's collection, including around 20 recent donations, Geometrias showcases pieces by artists who emerged during the constructive avant-garde movements, alongside contemporary artists who employ various materials to create geometric compositions.
Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director, MASP, Regina Teixeira de Barros, coordinating curator, MASP, and Matheus de Andrade, curatorial assistant, MASP, the exhibition explores both traditional geometry, primarily guided by mathematical principles, and more experimental approaches. These concepts unfold through works by Brazilian and international artists using diverse media and techniques, such as painting, sculpture, photography, and textiles. The dialogue between different tendencies reflects the incorporation of geometric art into the museum’s collection.
“The MASP collection is primarily composed of figurative works, but over time, the selection of abstract-geometric pieces has expanded. The organization of Geometrias engaged artists and collectors, who generously donated a significant number of works that not only fill gaps but also bring new perspectives to the collection,” says Regina Teixeira de Barros.
