Mônica Ventura presents Daqui um lugar, her new installation, curated by Lorraine Mendes, opening to the public this Saturday, March 22, at the Octagon of the Pinacoteca in São Paulo.
This site-specific installation emerged from the artist’s meditative practice, through which she sought to create a space of affection within the monumentality of the exhibition hall. In the work, Ventura employs materials that are recurrent in her research, such as soil, jute, and copper, constructing an immersive experience that evokes symbols linked to Afro-Amerindian cosmologies.
