JR opens Adventice at Carré Sainte-Anne in Montpellier, after seven years of renovation, Carré Sainte-Anne reopens its doors with Adventice, a new exhibition by French artist JR, curated by Numa Hambursin. On view from June 27 to December 7, 2025, the show transforms the former church with a monumental installation that weaves together art, botany, and local history.

Inspired by a little-known episode in Montpellier’s past — the unexpected growth of exotic plant species along the banks of the Lez River, brought by seeds hidden in wool bales imported from around the world during the Middle Ages — JR presents a poetic metaphor for migration, diversity, and coexistence. A tree made of 10,000 hands, cast from residents of the city, spreads through the central nave as a symbol of the collective construction of a shared future.
