Under the Same Sun exhibition artist Paul Ramírez Jonas discusses the conception and realization of two recent works of public sculpture, Publicar, which he realized in Porto Alegre, Brazil; and We Make the Treasure, on view at San Francisco’s Exploratorium. Among the ideas that Ramírez Jonas explores are the potential functioning of his sculptures as monuments, and the ways in which they are activated by the participation of members of the public, offering them a voice in an arena dominated by the state.
