Untitled (1960) by Tomie Ohtake is part of the M+ collection, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture, which opened its doors to the public on November 12 in Hong Kong. The work is part of Ohtake’s Blind Painting series produced in the late 1950s and the early 1960s. Ohtake painted each work blindfolded, relying on chance, her body, her gestures and her brushstroke to capture an unmediated production. The colors used in this particular painting are characteristic of the series, consisting largely of white, black, and gray. The work is on display at Individuals, Networks, Expressions, an exhibition that creates a complex web of connections centered on Asia, as a territory and a cultural space in a broader sense.
