Works from the Espaço Universitário Art Gallery (Gaeu), from Ufes, will occupy the permanent room of the Espírito Santo Museum of Art (Maes) as of this Tuesday, 4th. This is the Image and Word exhibition, a selection of 12 works by ten artists that are part of the institutions' collections. The exhibition is now open to the public and admission is free.
From the Gaeu collection, works by Rubens Gerchman, Antônio Henrique Amaral, Nice Avanza, Paulo Bruscky and Elpídio Malaquias will be on display; do Maes, in addition to another work by Malaquias, the show brings together productions by Fernando Accarino, Geovani Lima, Rosindo Torres, Néle Azevedo and Uiara Bartira. The exhibition is open to visitors until April 23, 2023, from Tuesday to Friday, from 10 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am to 4 pm. Maes is located at Avenida Jerônimo Monteiro, 631, in downtown Vitória.
According to the director of Maes and curator of the show, Nicolas Soares, the link between the works is writing, not necessarily as a central element, but as a narrative possibility. "The images are organized into something that is bigger, something that is in the culture. Certain words bring certain images. The exhibition wants to put a counterpoint: how a word can bring other images, as well as the narrative power of images can build multiple stories and demonstrations", explains Soares.
