Hugo França and Nara Roesler Galleries present the exhibition Sul da Bahia, featuring photographs by Cássio Vasconcellos (1965, São Paulo) produced in the region during a period of immersion dedicated exclusively to the project. The show brings together works from two central series in the artist’s trajectory: Viagem Pitoresca pelo Brasil, inspired by 19th-century traveling artists such as Rugendas, Debret, and Clarac, in which he revisits the gaze of these visual chroniclers by capturing the region’s forests and natural landscapes, revealing their exuberance and diversity; and Aéreas, developed over many years, with compositions that explore the territory from an aerial perspective.
Sul da Bahia will feature new works, such as the corals of Itacolomi, a new beach image, and aerial views of the Quadrado and the Trancoso region. These photographs reveal the artist’s ongoing search for a poetic and visually striking Brazil, where technique and sensitivity come together to transform landscape into art.
