Nara Roesler presents The Decorator’s Home: The Future is No Longer, a solo exhibition by Marco A. Castillo.
A former member of Los Carpinteros, Castillo has focused on his individual practice since 2017, exploring Cuban culture through design, art, and architecture. Following presentations in the U.S., Cuba, and Mexico, the project arrives in Brazil at the Casa Domschke, designed by Vilanova Artigas.
Curated by Livia Debbane, the exhibition runs from April 8 to 28, 2026. Rooted in Cuban modernism from the 1950s–70s, the exhibition reflects on a period of cultural innovation later overshadowed by Soviet influence, leading to the decline of local aesthetics. Castillo revisits this history through works that engage political symbolism and material culture, including pieces that reference the Cuban Revolution and the series Cadernos Ditadura, which addresses the experience of growing up under authoritarian rule.
In dialogue with the architecture of Casa Domschke, the exhibition invites reflections on Latin American modernism and its enduring legacy.
