about

Galeria Nara Roesler | New York is pleased to announce Printed Matter, Daniel Senise’s first solo exhibition at Galeria Nara Roesler’s New York outpost and first exhibition in New York since 2004. Curated by Dr. Isobel Whitelegg, art historian, lecturer and curator at the University of Leicester, the exhibition will showcase fifteen works in which Senise re-appropriates pages of vintage books. The artist collected material from sources ranging from artist monographs to religious books, creating a new pictorial platform, tapping into the power retained by material and addressing the question of matter vs. time. Four works feature recycled or shredded paper, while the remaining eleven pieces utilize paper to build a geometric landscape on aluminium base. Known as a painter, the artist has always been more interested in the image over the process of painting, therefore this show exemplifies how the artist transcends the artistic category of "painter", while retaining the visual language for which he is known. A series of events and workshop at the gallery have been organized to accompany the exhibition.
