Carlos Bunga is part of the group exhibition Modeling the World, on view at the Aranya Art Center in China. The show departs from the notion that models—whether architectural, artistic, or conceptual—function as tools to mediate reality and its possible transformations, offering new perspectives and scales through which to perceive the world.
In Gallery 2, Bunga presents a series of cardboard models in varying dimensions. Through these elements, the artist creates a site-specific installation that engages in a dialogue with the space, exploring the tensions between construction and decay, permanence and ephemerality, the microscopic and the monumental. His practice transforms simple materials into poetic structures that challenge conventional understandings of architecture and the built landscape.
Alongside Bunga, the exhibition features works by Zheng Guogu, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, and Isa Melsheimer. Each artist occupies one of the galleries with projects that explore the model as both a conceptual and experiential tool, expanding its function beyond representation. Modeling the World thus invites reflection on the role of models in shaping how we perceive and construct the world around us
